So facebook is more secure than myspace, but not much- we did a internet safety program when I was teaching and they recommend not putting any pictures or personal info on your account(but then whats the point right?) I have a facebook page and to be honest I don't really see the point of it, besides occasionally finding a friend from high school or something. Probably harmless. theres my spill :)
I like Facebook. Best way to stay in touch with old classmates, mission friends, distant relatives. Although I don't update mine too often, if I need to contact someone, I know how to reach them. As far as safety, who knows. I would say it is safer than blogging. Anyone can access a public blog, but only those who you allow can see your FB.
I think it's hard to do both facebook and a blog, because it's generally the same thing, but blogging is a little more adult oriented than facebook. However it is easier to find people through facebook than it is blogging.
I think it's fine for Hummer to join facebook, you can protect your profile fairly easy by adjusting the privacy settings, and I have a general rule that I don't add people I don't know.
Twitter is just a little application that allows you to write 150 characters updating your current mood, what you're doing, etc., and follow others doing the same thing...nothing that Facebook and blogging doesn't offer.
