He fought the Law ... Who won?

In the world, of The Hutchins Family, there are THREE LAWS that are absolutely set in stone... no exceptions!

Law #1: You will not receive a cell phone until you reach the age of 13 or begin Jr. High (which ever comes first). This LAW is non-negotiable.

Law #2: Each student entering Grantsville Jr. High School must receive 2-3 immunizations. This law is non-negotiable.

Law #3: Dillon is DEATHLY afraid of shots. This law has proven to be non-negotiable.

With that said, "The Story" begins...
Since it was announced at Jr. High registration, Dillon has been very worried about receiving his immunizations. "Worried" probably isn't the best word - "TERRIFIED" would probably be more appropriate. We have found him in tears out of the blue, to later find he has been thinking about the shots. I have had a "to do" list on the counter with "Dillon's shots" written on it. The list has oddly disappeared, only to learn later that Dill hid it in hopes that I would forget about the shots. The final episode happened when I offered to take Dill to the movies. I had explained that I needed to have my blood drawn and would drop him off after. Suddenly the tears welled up as he said, "You're not getting your blood drawn, you are really taking me to get my shots ... aren't you!". At that point we had a chat about how these immunizations were ruining his life and let's just get them over with.

Now the laws ...
I already told you what they are, each non-negotiable. Well, maybe not so non-negotiable after all. Jeff had the thought to let Dillon get his cell phone as a reward for getting his immunizations. At this point, I readily agree! We told Dill... he was reluctantly thrilled. So, I made an appointment for the next day and then ran to Salt Lake to pick up the phone.

Then the next 12 hours begin ...
9:00 (p.m.)-tears and family prayer for Dillon to be brave ... 2:00 (a.m.)-tears and fears resurface, kiss goodnight helps ... 5:00-crawling in to bed with Mom and Dad (tears still falling) ... 8:00-tears haven't stopped and Dad gives Dill a blessing ... 8:30-drive to the doctor while tears are falling faster and LOUDER ... 8:45-nurse calls Dill's name and is surprised to see him so upset ... 8:50-nurse leaves to go get immunizations. Dill closes his eyes and prays for himself (mom does too) ... 8:53-nurse returns and Mom holds Dillon's hand while he closes his eyes... 8:54-nurse says "all done" and Dillon says "What, I didn't even feel anything"... 8:55-Dillon smiles, Mom smiles ... 8:56-Dillon holds his new cell phone.

So you see, Dill fought the Law ... and, in the end, they both won!
